MY DRUMBEAT, a
disappointment in Europe in spite of his huge price tag, may have found that
the grass in greener in this part of the world.
Purchased for €650,000 as a
yearling, MY DRUMBEAT was trained by Aidan O'Brien and although he won a
race at Gowran Park and was placed in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud
in France at two, he failed to the best of Europe in the Irish 200 Guineas,
Irish Derby and French Derby at three. He was, however, placed in a Listed
race and a Group 3 event in England.
After a promising fourth in
his debut in Singapore last month, MY DRUMBEAT (Montjeu - Maskaya by
Machiavellian) quickly showed his class when he led all the way in the
Novice - 1600m event at Kranji here today.
The opening day of the new season saw 10
trainers saddling a winner each in the 10-race card, among then Laurie Laxon
who has captured the trainer's title for the past six seasons.
Amongst the riders, Danny
Deasley was the only one who booted home a double.
