ESCAMONDA gets off the mark in Singapore with an easy

ESCAMONDA, a Group 1 winner in  his native Argentina, was finally off the mark in Singapore when he led all the way to win the Benchmark 89 - 1600m on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

Winner of six races from 13 starts in Argentina including the Group 1 Gran Premio 25 de Layo (2400m), ESCAMONDA (Alpha Plus - Wise Girl by Gold Trojan) was brought to Singapore with the Derby in mind.

He started off his Kranji campaign promisingly enough, finishing second in his first two starts but failed to finish in the money again in eight subsequent outings. In the Derby last month, ESCAMONDA could only finish 11th to RACE AHEAD.

But up against a relatively weaker field today, ESCAMONDA was allowed to set the pace and was by three and a quarter lengths.
