Ghozi runaway winner in Stewards' Cup

GHOZI overcame a wide draw to score a record-breaking win in the S$300,000 Stewards' Cup over 1400m at Kranji here today.

In winning the first leg of the Singapore 4YO Series, the John O'Hara-trained GHOZI (Catbird - Finito Fling by Luskin Star) repeated his win over INTERCEPT last time out, winning by 2 3/4 lengths.

The favourite RACE AHEAD, who went into today's Group 2 race on the back on four consecutive wins, beat only one home in the nine-horse field.

Saimee Jumaat rode a tactical race on the Australian gelding who won two races in seven starts in Australia when racing as CATACAOS. Saimee eased him out from his wide draw and tucked him behind the pace before making his run in the straight.

GHOZI covered the distance on the short course in 1:21.26, slicing 0.04 second off BETTER THAN EVER's record set earlier this year.

Trainer John O'Hara has now won two out of two with the gelding, who picked up two wins in five starts when prepared by John Meagher.
