Apprentice H S Gill fined RM5,000

KUALA LUMPUR,  Jun 5, 2010

Apprentice Harmeet Singh Gill was today charged for failing to ride to the satisfaction of Stewards on MAGIC EIGHT and fined RM5,000.

MAGIC EIGHT came from last at the home turn to finish joint sixth to SUCCESS WINNER in a Class 5 (Banded 28 & Below) event over 1600m in Ipoh on May 22.

At the Selangor Turf Club today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of MAGIC EIGHT. Evidence was taken from Gill, the rider of MAGIC EIGHT, in the presence of his master, Trainer BT Lim and Trainer R Lines, the trainer of MAGIC EIGHT.

Gill was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding MAGIC EIGHT in this race, after missing the start slightly, he failed to make sufficient effort to place his mount in a midfield position as instructed.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Gill’s points of mitigation and his record. Gill was fined the sum of RM5,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.
