Irishman Thomas Gillespie
recorded his first double when he sent out two winners at the Penang meeting
being held here today, due to the closure of the racetrack in Penang for
extensive repairs.
Gillespie, who recently
took over TEXAS (Dolphin Street - Chandrani by Centaine), immediately
transformed the five-year-old who showed up for the first time in 20 starts
to win a Class 5 - 1600m handicap.
Gillespie, however, had to
share honour in the next race when GRAND STREET (Grand Lodge - Bow Street by
Rainbow Quest) deadheated with PACIFIC GIFT (Untouchable - Samoa by Hula
Chief) to win a Class 4 - 1400m sprint, his first success in 16 starts.
The seven-year-old had,
however, won two races in Australia prior to coming to Singapore and later
Malaysia . Today's run was his fourth under Gillespie.
