After being in the country
for several weeks, veteran Kiwi jockey Noel Harris finally had the chance to
roll back the years when he scored on KING RUFUS in the last race here
today.
A pin-up jockey in the MRA
circuit in the seventies, Harris is still one of the most sought after rider
in New Zealand despite his 55 years.
So far in his first visit
to Malaysia in years, Harris has been lacking in opportunities. He was
nominated on two rides today. The first, an emergency acceptor, did not get
a start.
The second, KING RUFUS
(Howbaddouwantit - Champagne Waltz by Victory Dance), he handled to
perfection. The six-year-old managed a win in eight starts in New Zealand
before coming to Malaysia and today's win was his second in the country.
Meanwhile, Azhar Ismail
landed three winners in quick succession for leading trainer Kevin Coetzee
today to move to second in the jockey's stable, and looks poised to
challenge Noel Callow for the title.
Azhar got off to a winning
start, scoring on NEW HOPE (Scenic - Paklani by Haulpak) who recorded just
his second win in 21 starts.
His second win came on FULL
POWER (Zeditave - Finance Review by Last Tycoon) who was racing after a
nine-month layoff.
Azhar's third win was
achieved on GOOD PLANNING (Elusive Quality - Bylaw by Lear Fan)
