HIDALGO returned to winning
form after a lapse of 12 months to give new trainer Tan Joo Hock his first
taste of success in Penang today.
Ridden by rising star
apprentice Ruzaini Sopien, HIDALGO (Woodborough - Hula Melody by Half Iced)
started favourite in the opening race and duly obliged by 3/4 length.
It was the second win in 47
starts for HIDALGO and only his second start for Penang-born Tan who took
over the seven-year-old last month.
Meanwhile, champion jockey
Benny Woodworth was in red-hot form, booting home four winners including the
main event, the Table 1 Race on BIG DAWN (Strategic - Befriend by
Marauding). It was the third win in the last four starts for the
four-year-old and his fifth career success.
