Kumarentheran suspended two months

PENANG,  May 8, 2010

Jockey A Kumarentheran was today suspended two months for his handling of THE GOLDEN PATH in a Class 4 - 1100m sprint here last Sunday.

THE GOLDEN PATH (Traditionally - Miss Leading by Casual Lies) started promisingly but faded to finish 11th to HUNGARIAN.

The Stewards open an inquiry last Sunday into the circumstances surrounding Kumarentheran not riding THE GOLDEN PATH out in the straight. The inquiry continued today at the Penang Turf Club and further evidence was taken from Kumarentheran.

Kumarentheran, the rider of THE GOLDEN PATH, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that after being hit by a clod at approximately the 600m, he failed to assist his mount thereafter in riding it out in the home straight which in the opinion of the Stewards was reasonable to do so taking into account the extent of injury that he suffered when being hit by the clod.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Kumarentheran’s points of mitigation and his record. Kumarentheran was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from tomorrow and to expire on July 8, 2010, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
