Leading jockey Joao Moreira
consolidated his position at the top of the jockey's table with a treble at
Kranji here tonight, consisting of a double from his original nominated
rides and a chance mount.
Moreira started the evening
with a bang when he booted home FORTUNE HUNTER (San Luis - Jetasha by
Jetball) in the opening race. It was the 27th career start for the former
New Zealand galloper.
Moreira then replaced John
Powell (injured thump) on MAGIC GAIA (Oratorio (AUS) - Get Shorty by Serheed)
and promptly guided her to a maiden success as well. The filly was placed
five times in nine starts in Perth and has three consecutive third placing
before breaking through tonight.
Moreira's third winner of
the evening — his 65th of the season — came on BREAK FREE (Fasliyev - Tehama
by Centaine) in the Kranji Stakes C - 1100m sprint on the polytrack. He now
leads by 13 wins.
