SANJUAN's unbeaten record
in Malaysia came to an end when he went down to a gutsy GOOD NATURE in the
RM600,000 Selangor Gold Cup over 1600m at Sungei Besi here today.
SANJUAN, winner of six
races in Australia, for going for his fourth consecutive win after capturing
the Tunku Gold Cup over 1200m last February.
But GOOD NATURE, who won
the Perak Derby over 2400m last August, ran him down in the shadows of the
winning post to snatch victory, his eighth in 23 starts for Golden Knight
Stable and trainer Kevin Coetzee.
For apprentice Jacky Lim,
it was his biggest success to date.
Many thought the distance
would be a trifle too short for GOOD NATURE but the five-year-old has shown
that he can match with the best sprinters around when finishing second in
the Sprint Trophy (1400m) last August. And he has started twice over 1600m
for a second and a third.
