NEW POWER completed a
hat-trick with a gusty win in a Da Ma Cai Stakes (Class 4 - 1400m) at Sungei
Besi here today and in the process brought Noel Callow to just one win
behind leading jockey Azhar Ismail.
Callow had begun the day on
a winning note when he partnered EASTERN STAR (Speed Week - Sovereign
Striker by Top Operator) to a narrow victory in the opening event.
NEW POWER (My Halo - Zingla
by Danasinga), who cost just NZ$10,000 at the South Island Sale, took a
while to find his form after landing unraced in August last year.
His maiden success came in
a lowly Class 5 event in August this year but the four-year-old is sure to
move up the ranks in the coming season.
Callow, who had set the
pace in the Malaysian jockey premiership for most of the season, lost the
lead after the resumption of racing following the discovery of a strangles
case which disrupted racing for several weeks.
But Callow is back at his
best and with just five racing days left of the season, the tussle between
him and Azhar is sure to be intense.
