Mexican Rose bags Kranji Sprint

Three-Year-Old filly MEXICAN ROSE put her older rivals to shame when she triumphed in the S$200,000 Kranji Sprint over 1200m at Kranji here today.

In winning the second leg of the Singapore Sprint series, she also broke the course record with a time of 1:9.00, slicing 0.2 secs. off the previous best held by YORICK since 2001.

Following her success in the Merlion Trophy over the same distance a fortnight ago, the New Zealand filly is in line to make a clean sweep of the Sprint series which concludes with the running of the Lion City Cup later this month.

MEXICAN ROSE (Volksraad - Down View by Gone West), winner of two of her three starts in New Zealand, brought her Singapore record to seven wins from eight outings, with her only blemish being a third when resuming from a let-up in February.

The Laurie Laxon-trained filly also captured the Juvenile Championship last season and a mouth-watering clash against top sprinter ROCKET MAN is in store in the Lion City Cup.
