MEXICAN ROSE renewed
partnership with champion jockey Saimee Jumaat and promptly bounced back to
form to win the S$200,000 Merlion Trophy over 1200m at Kranji here tonight.
Saimee had ridden the filly
to five consecutive wins last year, including the Juvenile Championship.
MEXICAN ROSE, winner of two
of three starts in New Zealand, was beaten to third placing while resuming
from a spell last month when Saimee Jumaat was serving a suspension.
Saimee resumed riding
earlier this month and struggled to find the mark, until he paired up again
with MEXICAN ROSE (Volksraad - Down View by Gone West) tonight.
Despite having her first
start on the polytrack, MEXICAN ROSE handled the alternative surface
magnificently to win by half a length from TUMBULGUM. TUXEDO MOON's run of
seven consecutive wins came to an end when he finished third.
