MEXICAN ROSE bounced back
from her unplaced runs in the Lion City Cup and the KrisFlyer International
Cup to win the S$125,000 Shin Min Cup at Kranji here tonight.
The three-year-old filly
had won seven of eight starts before the two Cup races, after which her
owners decided to send her to the breeding barn and has been booked on a
flight to Australia on Aug 23.
Although she was up in the
weights in the Kranji Stakes A event over 1200m tonight, MEXICAN ROSE
(Volksraad - Down View by Gone West) showed plenty of guts to beat BIONIC
BOY by a neck.
MEXICAN ROSE, who has two
wins from three starts in New Zealand before coming to Singapore, may have
one more run before her flight to Australia.
Saimee Jumaat, who has
ridden her in all her eight wins here, has suggested that a 1400m event
would suit her. Thus far, she has not raced beyond 1200m but the way she
came on tonight suggested she is looking for the extra distance.
TOBIAS (Germano - Vienna
Belle by Crested Wave) ended a 19-month drought to win The New Paper Trophy
(Benchmark 74 - 1600m).
On board in seven of his 11
starts in New Zealand, the gelding broke through with three wins in
Singapore in 2008.
TOBIAS managed just one
placing last year, but he has been consistent and knocking on the door with
a series of placings this season.
