Sani suspended three months

PENANG:  Jun 27, 2010

Jockey Suhairi Sani was today suspended three months for his handling of HAPPY & SMILE in the Restricted Maiden - 1400m sprint here yesterday.

HAPPY & SMILE (Niello - Private Lady by Flying Spur) came from well off the pace to finish third to EXCELLENT GOAL, beaten half-a-length and a head.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Sani pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding HAPPY & SMILE in this race, from the 200m mark to the finish, he failed to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Sani’s points of mitigation and his record. Sani was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months with effect from June 28 and to expire on September 27, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
