Apprentice Kelvin Ng Seh Beng
joined an elite band of riders to win their race debut on a day when he
master, trainer Alvin Tan Hai Wang saddled a career first treble, then a
quadruple.
Ng's dream of becoming a
jockey began four years ago but it was not until he had his indenture
transferred to Tan that he his dream started to take shape with more and
more trial rides and finally the chance for real action astride HIGH
CENTENNIAL in the Class 5, Div 1 - 1000m sprint on the polytrack today.
Although drifting out in
the home stretch, HIGH CENTENNIAL (High Rolling - Centennial Eyes by Pride
Of Century) was too good for the rest, drawing away to win by 2 1/2 lengths.
"I’ve
waited for four years for that day. I never thought I could win at my very
first ride, but I’ve done it," said an emotional Ng on return to scale.
Tan
started the day with a 'bang' when WINDSPOUT (Postponed - Ocarina by
Octagonal) took the opening event, and had two more victories with MAGIC
MOXIE (El Moxie - Private Time by Pirate Army) and LION CITY TYCOON (Noverre
- Fast Life by Marscay) before the success by Ng on HIGH CENTENNIAL.
"I’ve
had my first treble today and to get a four-timer, I’m just so excited,”
said Tan. “I can’t believe my luck."
"The
Strangles (case) that forced me to lock-up the stable allowed all my horses
to have a good rest and we are now seeing the results here."
