Sofian disqualified 12 months

IPOH,   February 19, 2010

Apprentice Sopan Sofian bin Mohamad Yusoff (S Sofian) has been disqualified 12 months after his urine sample returned a positive test two weeks ago.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter today at the Perak Turf Club. Evidence was taken from Sofian, in the presence of his master, Trainer KL Chong, Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd, and Dr Lam Yee Yoon.

After considering all the evidence, Sofian pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded “J-2127” submitted by him on February 6 at the Selangor Turf Club February Meeting 2010, on analysis, revealed the presence of “Methamphetamine & metabolite”, which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the drug, his clean record and his guilty plea. Sofian was disqualified for a period of twelve months with immediate effect from February 14 and to expire on February 13, 2011, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
