In a very even betting
race, SUPER GOLD re-wrote the track record to record his second Singapore
Group 3 victory in the inaugural S$200,000 Moonbeam Vase over 1800m at
Kranji here today.
Ridden by John Powell,
SUPER GOLD (Golden Snake - Gold Patriot by Made Of Gold) tracked reigning
Horse of the Year JOLIE'S SHINJU from the start before moving ahead 300m
out to win by one length from the favourite DROVETTI.
SUPER GOLD covered the trip
in 1:46.89, shaving 0.11 sec. off the previous mark set by BIG MAVERICK last
year.
Winner of the Committee'
Prize last August, trainer Sam Chua will now prepare SUPER GOLD for the
Queen Elizabeth II Cup next month with the Singapore Derby in July very much
in his sight.
JOLIE'S SHINJU faded to
finish fourth but his connections reckon that the mare is coming back to
form. "I’m sure this
run will bring her on in leaps and bounds," said jockey Ron Stewart.
JOLIE'S SHINJU, who managed
a third from four starts in Australia during the spring carival, is being
prepared for the S$3m Singapore Airlines International Cup in May.
