Waikato lands Saas Fee Stakes

WAIKATO, who finished best of the Singapore contingent in the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup (SIA Cup) last May, stepped up on that run to win the S$200,000 Saas Fee Stakes over 1400m on Derby day at Kranji here today.

For the second consecutive year a couple of months ago, WAIKATO (Pins - Skywalker Wilkes by Skywalker) finished fourth in the SIA Cup.

Freshened up since, the six-year-old was ridden a well-judged race by Joao Moreira, bidding for his time just off the pace and took the lead inside the 300m to win by 1 1/2 lengths from LIM'S FIGHTER. It was his 15th win in 38 starts.
