WHY WHY WEST (Spartacus
(AUS) - Lover's Chariot by Zephyr Zip), who chalked up two wins each in the
last two years, has started the new season on a bright note when she won the
Da Ma Cai Stakes (Class 3 - 1700m) here today.
The seven-year-old mare,
ridden by replacement rider, apprentice Jacky Lim, was the least backed in a
seven-horse field. But she showed her staying prowess when she came from
last early to win by three quarters of a length and paid a handsome RM84 for
a win.
There was a bigger upset in
Race 5 (Band 39-49 - 1200m) when WIN DRAGON (Drama Critic - Real Power by
Deputy Governor) showed up for the first time in nine starts and paid RM157
for a win.
A winner yesterday and two
more astride ROLLING HIGH (Snaadee - Shy Sadie by Trempolino) and EASY
MELANG (One Cool Cat - Strawberry Affair by Grosvenor) today catapulted
Azhar Ismail to the top of the jockey's table.
The latter started a raging
favoruite after posting a fourth and a third in his first two starts and
paid RM6 for a win.
With the new season just
one month old, the multiple champion who last won the title in 2008, has
chalked up nine wins, three more than his nearest rival.
