Leong misses out on perfect hat-trick

A mere short head was the margin that prevented jockey Leong Yoon Fei from achieving a perfect hat-trick at Kranji here tonight.

The Malaysian jockey, who recently decided to be based in Singapore on a more permanent basis, was beaten a short head on SUPREMACY STEEL in the opening event.

But he made amends two races later to score on NADAL (Bletchley Park - You Are My Destiny by Dauberval) and then completed a rare double at Kranji by winning on RUSSIAN ROULETTE (Galileo - Talent Lover by Lucky Ring).

"I want to establish myself in Singapore. I now ride trackwork here and am getting more support from trainers. I’ve always loved riding in Singapore and I want to have a real go at it," said Leong.

Leong's double tonight brought his tally at Kranji this season to five. He has a similar score in Malaysia. Last year, he rode two winners in Singapore and 17 in Malaysia.
