Apprentice Y S Lim suspended two months

KUALA LUMPUR:  Nov 27, 2010

Apprentice Lim Yeok Seng, who was suspended one month last Sunday for careless riding on TIENJIN CONNECTION, has been suspended a further two months for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

At the Selangor Turf Club today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of WON’T STOP who finished second to MONEY TRAP in a Restricted Maiden - 1100m sprint in Ipoh last Sunday.

Evidence was taken from Lim, the rider of WON’T STOP, in the presence of his master, trainer Evert van Breukelen and trainer Abdul Rahim, the trainer of WON’T STOP.

Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding WON’T STOP in the above race, between the 800m to the 400m, he failed to attempt to position his mount in a midfield position as instructed whilst his mount was conceding ground.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Lim’s points of mitigation, his relative inexperience and his record. Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from Dec 22 and to Feb 21, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, trainer Abdul Rahim was warned that in future he would be expected to be more forthcoming with his evidence in inquiries, failing which action may be taken against him.
