Jockey Mohd Zaidi was today
suspended three months after he pleaded guilty to a charge of not riding to
the satisfaction of the stewards on AMAZING GRACE yesterday.
AMAZING GRACE (High Chaparral - Torrance by
Geiger Counter) finished 12th to SECRET ATTIRE in a Class 5 - 1400m sprint.
The stewards concluded an
inquiry into the running and handling of AMAZING GRACE today. Evidence was taken from and
trainer Richard Lines.
Zaidi pleaded guilty to a charge
under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the
stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:
1. Between the 600m to the 400m mark, he failed to improve his position
as per his riding instructions;
2. Passing the 200m, after being shifted outwards by MYTH OF RACING, he
failed to attempt to maintain his position and instead steadied his
mount to race behind that runner; and
3. From the 100m to the finish, he failed to attempt to improve his
position between MYTH OF RACING and BIG MARVEL when at all material
times there were opportunities to do so.
When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts
of this case, Zaidi’s points of mitigation, his previous record
and guilty plea. Zaidi was suspended from riding in races for a
period of three months with effect from tomorrow and to expire on
June 14, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal
