Zaidi suspended six months

IPOH:  Sep 26, 2010

Jockey Muhamad Zaidi was today suspended six months for failing to ride the satisfaction of the stewards on NEVERANINCH in a Class 5 - 1400m sprint here yesterday.

NEVERANINCH (Admiralty - Harvey Road by Harvey Pack), trained by LN Danis, came from a long way back to finish a smack-up fifth to XIN DONG WARRIOR.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of NEVERANINCH today. Evidence was taken from Zaidi and Danis.

Zaidi pleaded guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding NEVERANINCH in the above race:

1. Between the 1200m and the 900m, he failed to allow his mount to race in a more forward position on the outside of XIN DONG WARRIOR when there were opportunities to do so and in accordance to his instructions; and

2. Between the 200m and finish, he failed to ride NEVERANINCH with sufficient vigour particularly with regards to his left hand movement when his mount was running on.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Zaidi’s points of mitigation and his poor record  Zaidi was suspended from riding in races for a period of six months with effect from tomorrow to Mar 26, 2011, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, Danis was warned that in future he would be expected to approach the stewards immediately should he have any concern or query with any jockey’s ride on any of his horses, failing which action may be taken against him.
