THE BANK took on the 'big
boys' for the first time today and promptly walked away with the inaugural
Chairman Guineas Trophy over 1600m at Sungei Besi here today.
A three-time winner from 19
starts when racing as BURLY GRIFFEN in Australia, the gelding has shown
promise with two wins and two placings in Class 3 in his first five outings
in Malaysia.
Coming up against Class 1
opposition for the first time since his last win in June, THE BANK (Hillman
- Instant by Prego) showed too much class for his rivals to win by two and a
quarter lengths to give Jose De Souza his second winner of the afternoon
after scored on AGUSAN DEL NORTE (Sirius Slew - Kahuna Delago by Encosta De
Lago) in the opening event.
Two other visiting jokeys
Noel Callow and Gary Hind were also in the winner's circle with OPPORTUNE
TIME (Royal Academy - Proposing by Pentire) and BINTANG BIRU (Red Ransom -
Nobellotto by Bellotto) respectively.
