Better Than Ever completes Kranji Mile double

BETTER THAN EVER returned to his best form when he captured the $500,000 Panasonic Kranji Mile (1600m) at Kranji today, completing a double in the Singapore Group 1 event.

Ridden by regular partner Saimee Jumaat, the five-year-old produced a late lunge to claim victory by a head, holding off the fast-finishing CLEAR FOR ACTION. WAIKATO, who finished second last year, came home third this time.

BETTER THAN EVER will now head for the Raffles Cup (1800m) later this month, a race he also won last year to complete an unbeaten run of 12 starts.

BETTER THAN EVER started the season with two wins but failed to win in five starts after that although he found one to beat in all the three legs of the four-year-old challenge.

"It was a good gutsy win today,” said trainer Laurie Laxon. “A lot like last year."
