After tasting defeat for the first time in three outings last time out, BETTER BE THE ONE returned to winning ways with a runaway victory in the Kranji Stakes A - 1200m sprint at Kranji here today.

Ridden by Danny Beasley, the four-year-old was sent out favourite in the set-weight event and never gave his backers any anxious moment as he coasted home by 2 3/4 lengths.

BETTER BE THE ONE (More Than Ready - Common Smytzer by Snippets) had cost A$485,000 as a yearling. Although he picked up five wins, including the listed Festival of Racing Stakes at Flemington, from 12 starts in Australia, he did not quite live up to expectations.

But the Australian gelding has shown in his four starts here that much more can be expected from him.
