Steven Burridge, who broke
the stranglehold Laurie Laxon had on the Singapore trainer's premiership
with 90 winners last year, finally got off the mark for the new season when
he saddled FLASH GORDON to victory in the Kranji Stakes C - 1800m event at
Kranji tonight.
FLASH GORDON last success
came in October when ridden by Ronnie Stewart but has finished down the
field in four outings since.
Not surprisingly, the
five-year-old was not fancied in the betting. But with Stewart back in the
saddle for the first time since October, FLASH GORDON (Catbird - Kayzarana
by Generous) sprang a surprise to win by half-a-length to pay $179 for a
win.
FLASH GORDON was the third
leg of a treble for Stewart won earlier won back-to-back races with SIMPSON
(Straight Strike - Victory Leah by Victory Zone) and FUKU ICIHIBAN (Black
Minnaloushe - Yulia by Hunza Court).
Stewart, however, had to share honours with
Saifudin Ismail who was successful on GOD OF SPEED (Shamardal - Shopping
Spree by Success Express), DAYS OF THUNDER (Lucky Owners - Zedique by
Zeditave) and ART OF SPEED (More Than Ready - Sapphire Girl by Danzero).
