The man they nickname 'King
Callow', first in Singapore and later in Malaysia, reigned supreme on the
final day of the Selangor Turf Club Piala Emas Sultan Selangor meeting here
today when he booted home five winners.
Not only did Noel Callow
capture the RM1mil Piala Emas Sultan Selangor astride RISKY BUSINESS, he
also came up tops in the International Jockeys Championship after winning
two of the three legs held today.
Trained in Singapore by
Steven Burridge, RISKY BUSINESS (Danehill Dancer - Sky Watch by Star Watch)
first crossed the border and finished third to TOP SPIN in the Piala Emas
Sultan Selangor in June last year.
On his return, the
Australian gelding won the Singapore Gold Cup and on his second to Kuala
Lumpur, he won the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup (Penang Gold Cup) which
was held in Sungei Besi last year.
Despite showing indifferent
form in six starts in Singapore this year, RISKY BUSINESS was clearly a
class above the rest against the mostly Malaysian runners, coming from
midfield to win drawing away by two lengths.
Former Singapore galloper
GOOD FEEL (Hunza Court - Gleaming Day by Gleam Machine) finished second,
ahead of GENERAL TYCOON (Generous - Assizes by Kenmare).
Callow was also successful
in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy (Class 3 - 1600m) on FIGHT TO LIVE (Tayasu
Tsuyoshi - Pretty Alert by Shalford) and the Macau Jockey Clun Goodwill
Trophy (Class 3 - 1400m) on THE BANK (Hillman - Instant by Prego) on his way
to amass 29 points to win the International Jockeys Championship.
Second in the six-race contest was South
African Martin Wepner with 21 points followed by Macau-based Fasuto Durso
with 19 points.
