Captain Obvious and Rocket Man are tops

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS and ROCKET MAN have been named Horse Of The Year 2010 for Malaysia and Singapore respectively.

The nomination and selection panel of the Malayan Racing Association met on Feb 17 and the results were announced by the MRA today.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (Verglas - Shathor by Tirol) started seven times during the 2010 season, winning five consecutive starts including the Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trophy and the Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase, both over 1400m.

Trained by Chong Keng Leong, the gelding also finished second to SANJUAN in the Tunku Gold Cup (1200m) and his only unplaced run came in the Coronation Cup (1600m).

ROCKET MAN (Viscount - Mactosa by McGinty) won all his four starts against local company during the year, but was luckless in all three international Group 1 events he contested, going down second each time.

Trainer by Patrick Shaw, he was beaten half-a-length by KINSALE KING in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, a neck by GREEN BIRDIE in the KrisFlyer International Sprint and a nose by JJ THE JETPLANE in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint.

In the lead up to the Hong Kong Sprint, ROCKET MAN deadheated with ONE WORLD to win the Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint at Sha Tin.

The connections of ROCKET MAN and Singapore champion personalities of 2010 would be honoured at a gala dinner organized by the Association of Trainers of Singapore this Thursday.

The connections of CAPTAIN OBVIOUS and the Malaysian champion personalities of 2010 would be honoured at the MRA Cup meeting in Kuala Lumpur on March 27 when he 2011 MRA Cup will be run.
