Tommy Chang lands first Singapore winner

Former United States based jockey Tommy Chang landed his first winner in Singapore since he started here last September when successful on FAT KING in the Class 4 - 1700m handicap on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

The Malaysian born Chang, 37, recorded 110 wins riding mainly in New York, Virginia, Maryland and Boston before heading for Singapore where trainer Tan Hor Khoon helped him gain his work permit and provided him his first winner.

FAT KING (Mossman - Prisage by Snippets) returned to form after exactly 12 months to record his third win in 18 starts after a short head victory over CORSAGE. The gelding had raced thrice for a win in Autralia.

"It has taken a little bit of time to learn the different ways of racing here. The track rides a lot faster here," said Chang. "In the US on the dirt it is a lot deeper and you need to keep the horses a lot more balanced."
