Alex Chew, who was granted
his professional jockey's licence last month, landed his first winner as a
senior rider when successful on DONT COMPROMISE (My Halo - The Free Radical
by Star Way) in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap in this special one-day novelty meeting here today.
Chew had ridden just four
winners as an apprentice this season. After finishing third in
his first ride today, he went on to win on DONT COMPROMISE who showed up for the first time in seven starts to win
by five lengths in the soft going.
Chew had to forego the ride
on PRINCESS SARAH (Danewin - Night Time by Real Quiet) because of the leg
cramp and the mare went on to record an easy win with Khalid Eirwan in the
saddle. Chew had scored on the mare two starts back.
Khalid had opened accounts
in the opening event with MONEY NOT ENOUGH (Dolphin Street - Imperial Girl
by Stylish Century) and shared
riding honours with Jai Shankar who also booted home a double on HUMBLE HARVEST (Bahhare
- Famette by Famous Star) and APRIL RAIN (Hawkeye - Taveuni Flower by Gold
Brose).
Only six local races were
run today as the last event was cancelled due to adverse weather.
