CLINT romps to an easy win in the Emirates Singapore Derby

CLINT outstayed the favourite, the 14-time winner BETTER THAN EVER in the S$1.15mil Emirates Singapore Derby to give trainer Cliff Brown his biggest win todate.

Jockey John Powell took advantage of his inside draw on CLINT (Casual Lies - Torch by Deputy Governor) to hug the fence throughout and then ran down the front-running BETTER THAN EVER to win by two and a half lengths in the Group 1 event.

"I knew the horse was fit," said Brown. "The 2000m journey was perfect for him and he had a great draw. I’m still in a state of shock."

For Powell it was his second success in the Derby having scored a HELLO AND GOODBYE for Bruce Marsh in 2005. And the win could not have come at a better time for the Australian for had gone through lean times of late.

CLINT, a full brother to WHITAKER and a half-brother to JODIE, had now chalked up four wins and nine placings in 21 starts.

With the defeat, BETTER THAN EVER has now finished second in all three legs of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge.
