FOX COMMAND, contesting a
Cup race for the first time, accounted for strong field of
gallopers to win in the RM700,000 Coronation Cup over 1600m here today.
Winner of three races in
lower company earlier, the five-year-old came into the race on the back to
two second placings behind STEALTH and THE BANK respectively in his last two
starts.
Ridden by regular partner,
apprentice Harmeet Singh Gill, FOX COMMAND (Testa Rossa - Energy Source by
Anabaa) not only turned the tables on the two horses, he also put some past
classic winners into the shade with a neck-victory over the 11-time winner
FIGHTER JET.
The phenomenal rise of FOX
COMMAND should not come as a surprise. Racing as TRIBULUS in Australia, the
gelding managed four placings at Flemington, Sandown and Moonee Valley, and
contested the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and Group 3 WA Sires' Produce Stakes
in six starts at two.
He broke through for a win
at Kilmore at three and managed two more placings from seven outings before
coming over to Malaysia where he has now chalked up four wins and three
placings in 10 starts.
