Brazilian jockey Nelito
Lola da Cunha booted home his first winner in Malaysia today, helping local
trainer Cecil Robert to saddle a treble for the afternoon.
Cunha, who has been riding
in Singapore with success since last year, failed to find success in six
rides last weekend but quickly changed that with SMILING MELANG (Dexter -
Sweet Mouza by Bao Lack) in the first race.
It was a popular win as the
veteran seven-year-old started favourite for his seventh win in 63 starts.
Robert went on to saddle
DISTANT GLORY (Captain Rio - Monsanto by Kilimanjaro) and BLACK ARROW
(Country Reel - Doughnut by Snipprts) to victory. The former broke through
for his maiden win in nine starts while the latter, a two-time winner in
Australia, was having his fifth outing in Malaysia.
And with veteran Tommy
Noordin also successful with one of his two runners in LUCKY LUCKY (Lomond
Bay - Fine Things by Ksar), Penang trainers took half the card of eight
races.
