Charity Cup to Tears To Diamonds

TEARS TO DIAMONDS' phenomenal rise from an untried three-year-old to a top galloper in the space of sixth months was capped by his convincing victory in the RM250,000 Charity Cup over 2000m here today.

Originally purchased by Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye for A$38,000 as a yearling, his owners' decision to race him in Malaysia under trainer Richard Lines has paid big dividends.

TEARS TO DIAMONDS (Royal Academy - Tears Of Argentina by Umatilla) finished second in his debut in May but quickly went one better the next start and reeled off a hat-trick in Class 4 before earning a crack at the Charity Cup.

Ridden by Jackson Low, the four-year-old gave his older rivals a lesson in galloping to win by one and a quarter lengths. It's now five wins and two seconds from eight career starts for the gelding whose next target could be the Gold Cup (2200m) in Penang next month.
