EL DORADO galloped into the
history book when he captured the prestigious S$1.35mil Singapore Gold Cup
for the third time at Kranji today, and made it perfect three out of three
attempts in the 2200m handicap.
The Japanese gelding joins
the mighty THREE RINGS (1954, 1956 and 1957) as the only three-time winner
of the Gold Cup.
EL DORADO (Stay Gold -
White Leap by White Muzzle) recorded back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009 but
missed the race due to injury last year.
Although he has picked up
just one win since his second Gold Cup success, EL DOARDO proved he has what
it takes to win Singapore's premier handicap event when he defeated the very
promising LIZARRE by half-a-length in the rain.
It was also Ronnie
Stewart's third win in the Gold Cup having also ridden the gelding in 2008
and 2009, and a fitting 'going away' present for the Australian jockey who
leaves Singapore at the end of next month.
"He's the best horse I have
ridden," declared Stewart. "If
he lines-up next year and I get the chance to come up and ride him then I’ll
be here.
