FATKID, who outstayed a few
big names to win the Group 3 Fortune Bowl (2000m) in February, has once
again caused a mild upset to win the Group 2 S$350,000 Queen Elizabeth II
Cup over the same distance at Kranji here today.
Ridden by Azhar Ismail who
picked up the ride after fellow Penang jockey Saifudin Ismail was indisposed
after a fall earlier in the evening, FATKID (Handsome Ransom - Grace Jones
by Maroof) was ridden a copy book race, coming from just off the pace to win
by one and three-quarters lengths from PARFUMIER.
Singapore Gold Cup and Yang
Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup winner RISKY BUSINESS finished third.
Passed in at the Ready To
Run sale at NZ$25,000, FATKID has now won five times in 17 starts and gave
trainer Tan Hor Khoon his second group win and his biggest win to date.
"This
is the race I have been targeting for FATKID after he won the Fortune Bowl.
(2000m) on Chinese New Year.
He was running against the best stayers at
weight-for-age conditions and I wasn't all that sure he would measure up.
But he was fit and well," said Tan.
