GINGERBREAD MAN completed a
clean sweep of the three-year-old series when he made all the running to win
the S$500,000 Singapore Guineas over 1600m at Kranji here tonight.
Ridden by Vlad Duric, the
colt erased any doubt as to his ability to stay the 'mile' to win the
Singapore Group 1 event by one and a half lengths.
"I
was always confident he would see out the mile but there is still an element
of doubt going into the race. Now we know he can and he’s done it in the
race that mattered the most," said trainer Bruce Marsh.
After having also won the
Group 3 Three-Year-old Sprint (1200m) and the Group 2 Three-Year-Old Classic
(1400m) last month, the Australian colt picked up a bonus of S$150,000 for
achieving the treble.
His win tonight, his eighth
from 11 starts, also brought his earning to pass the S$680,000 mark.
It was the fourth group
success for the Bruce Marsh-trained GINGERBREAD MAN (Shamardal - Quaffle by
Hurricane Sky) who also won the Group 3 Juvenile Championship (2YO) last
year.
He was sold for A$30,000 as
a yearling but when offered at the Horses In Training Sale, was passed in at
A$50,000 at just half his reserve price.
