RUN FOR THE HILLS, very
promising as a juvenile but failed to follow it up at three and four in
England, has made a winning start to his campaign in Singapore.
Ridden by Danny Beasley,
the five-year-old English gelding led his rivals on a merry chase, going to
the line with two lengths to spare in the Class 4 - 1200m sprint on the
polytrack.
"I
was hopeful, rather than confident, of the horse running well tonight. I’m
just grateful that he was able to hold on," said trainer Cliff Brown.
As a juvenile, RUN FOR THE
HILLS (Oasis Dream - Maid For The Hills by Indian Ridge) was raced by his
breeders Normandie Stud and trained by John Gosden. After a third at
Newmarket and second at Goodwood, he won a maiden race over 1207m at
Newmarket when ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Turning three, he faced the
starter four times, notching a splendid third in the listed Rous Stakes over
1005m at Newmarket. He had another seven outings at four, managing a third
at Newmarket again.
After one unplaced start at
five, owner Richard Pegum, who paid 60,000 guineas for him as a
four-year-old, decided to send him to Singapore.
