A heavy downpour late in
the afternoon caused the cancellation of the final race here today, but not
before home based trainers dominated the proceedings winning seven out of
eight races contested.
John McGillivray produced
the winners of the two Class 3 races over the 1100m straight course, SLIPA
VISTA and FOUR ACES.
SLIPA VISTA (Success
Express - Pixies by Magic Ring) made all the running to record his third win
in eight starts, but had to work hard for victory by a neck.
FOUR ACES (Kempinsky - No
Can Boo by Canny Lad) had it much easier, winning by 2 3/4 lengths for his
fourth win in 11 outings.
Newly-crowned champions
Azhar Ismail and Kevin Coetzee combined for a double with A STORY (Orientate
- Princess Shorna by Last Tycoon), who was racing after a six-month spell,
and EASTERN HERO (Scenic - Cyclone Dolly by Jeune), who broke through for
his first win in 13 starts.
John Brink, one of three
trainers who have been granted only six-month licences till Jun 30,
prevented the local contingent from making a clean sweep when he saddled
EXCELLENT GOAL (Black Minnaloushe - Miss Sacha by Kaapstad) to win a Class 4
- 1400m sprint.
