Jason Yeoh disqualified and fined

PENANG:  Aug 21, 2011

Apprentice jockey Jason Yeoh was today handed a two-year disqualification for his ride on WIENER in a Class 4 - 1100m sprint here last Saturday when the Australian gelding finished fifth, less than two lengths from the winner THREE THOUGHTS.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of WIENER at Penang Turf Club today. Evidence was taken from Yeoh in the presence of his master, trainer LN Danis, who is also the trainer of WIENER, and senior track rider Poobalan a/l Rangasamy (STR 136).

Yeoh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) in that whilst riding WIENER in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that WIENER was given full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge were that near the 100m, he stopped riding and restrained his mount for approximately nine strides when his mount was running on.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Yeoh’s previous record and his points of mitigation. After considering the provisions of MRA Rule 44(8)(a), Yeoh was disqualified for a period of two years with immediate effect from today to Aug 20, 2013, both days inclusive. He was also fined the sum of RM50,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.
