Apprentice JL Li (Steven Lee) was today suspended two months for his handling of GOOD DAY in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint for claiming riders at Kranji on Jan 30. GOOD DAY (Clang - Calm And Content by Imperial Baron) came from a long way back to finish fourth to ASIAN POWER. The inquiry into the running and riding of GOOD DAY was concluded today. Li, the rider of GOOD DAY, in the presence of his master, rrainer Desmond Koh, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that between the 600m and the 400m, he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards when he failed to ride his mount along to improve his position, as instructed and when there was an opportunity to do so. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the nature of the charge and submissions from Li that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, Feb 18 and Sunday, Feb 20. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races for a period of two months and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, Feb 21, Wednesday, Apr 20, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal. |
