After a false start
yesterday when he could not make the weight on his sole nominated ride, Rye
Joorawon was quickly off the mark in his Malaysian debut here today.
Partnering the Stephen
Cook-trained SPICE MASTER (Top Echelon - Vicheno by Blevic), the Mauritian
jockey wasted no time in steering the four-year-old to an easy victory in a
Class 5 - 1600m handicap.
The top local jockey in
Mauritius in 2009 with 23 wins, Joorawon rode a copy book race on SPICE
MASTER, sitting the gelding just behind the pace early and timed his run to
perfection to win drawing away by two and three-quarter lengths. It was the
gelding's second win in 17 starts.
Joorawon, who has also
ridden in South Africa, was unplaced in one other ride this afternoon but
has no doubt won a lot fans with his showing today.
