After three unplaced rides
in his Malaysian racing debut yesterday, apprentice Mohd Khairil quickly benefited
from the experience to land his maiden winner in his only ride here today.
Partnering the top weight
LUCKY FUND (Dolphin Street - Shemaro by Success Express), he took the
Australian gelding to the front at the start and then eased back to second
when LORELEI took up the running.
LUCKY FUND then regained
the lead making the turn into the straight and drew away to win by two and a
quarter lengths. It was the five-year-old's second win in 19 starts.
Khairil, who is indentured to Tan Joo Hock,
rode 57 winners in New Zealand when honing his skill down under. "It's a
thrill to ride a winner in front of my family and friends," said the
23-year-old Penangite.
