New trainer Steven Lam makes debut

SINGAPORE:  July 11, 2011

Hong Kong-born Singapore permanent resident Steven Lam Wai Yuen, who was granted a MRA ‘A’ trainer’s licence in April, will saddle his first runners at Kranji this weekend.

Lam has entered QUI EST LA in the Class 4 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack on Friday and HANGOVER in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1200m handicap on Sunday.

The 47-year-old is a product of the Singapore Training Academy for Racing (STAR) programme. He began his training as a syce in 2003 with ex-trainer Bernard Ang before moving to ex-Kranji trainer Tim Pinfield as a stable supervisor for four months in 2004.

As part of his STAR curriculum, Lam then attended overseas training at the Marcus Oldham College in Geelong, Australia in 2005, graduating with a Diploma in Horse Business Management.

Upon returning to Singapore after his course, Lam joined trainer Steven Burridge as stable supervisor in January 2006 before obtaining his assistant-trainer’s licence in December 2007. His last position before he obtained his MRA professional trainer’s licence was as an assistant trainer with trainer Michael Freedman.
