The opportunities have been
few for Czech jockey Tomas Lukasek in his first stint outside of Europe
where he has ridden 15 group races in Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy,
France and England.
Unplaced in three rides
last week, Lukasek was nominated on three horses today. But it was a chance
mount that gave the 27-year-old his breakthrough victory in Malaysia.
Second emergency
acceptor MAJOR STEP (Brocco - Padmini by Palace Music) was lucky to get a start
in a Class 3 - 1400m sprint and Lukasek made full use of the chance,
steering the gelding to his third win in nine starts.
Lukasek finished second in
the Czech table last year and was sitting in the same position when he left
for Malaysia last week.
Up-and-coming stayer TEARS
TO DIAMONDS (Royal Academy - Tears Of Argentina by Umatilla) completed a
hat-trick with a superb victory in the RM55,000 Kelang Silver Bowl for Class
4 horses over 1800m.
Ridden by Noel Callow,
TEARS TO DIAMONDS won by two and a quarter lengths from LIBERATION SPIRIT, a
winner at Newmarket at three and picking up one win thus far in Malaysia.
After winning thrice over
distances from 1200m to 1600m in his first six starts, the Australian
four-year-old was sent over 1800m for the first time and duly passed the
test, underlying his potential yet again.
