South African trainer Basil
Marcus saddled what was most likely to be his last winner in Singapore when
EQUIENCE was successful in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1600m handicap on the
polytrack at Kranji tonight.
Marcus, who makes his
Singapore debut only in January last year, leaves Singapore after Sunday's
meeting in which he has just one runner.
Marcus took over the
training of the New Zealand gelding only last April and tonight's outing was
the third for the six-year-old under the former seven-time champion jockey
in Hong Kong.
EQUIENCE (Prince Ferdinand
- Ice Queen by Dorchester), ridden by John Powell, snatched victory
from WHO ELS in a thrilling finish after the pair stormed home on the
outside of horses to fight it out.
EQUIENCE won by a nose to record his second
victory in 35 starts.
