Daniel Moor suspended one month and fined

KUALA LUMPUR:  Feb 18, 2011

Aussie jockey Daniel Moor was today handed a one-month suspension and fined RM30,000 for his handling of FIVE LEVEL DAY in a Restricted Maiden - 1200m at Sungei Besi here last Sunday.

The well-backed FIVE LEVEL DAY (Action This Day - Mary Richards by Copelan), trained by Johnny Lim, finished fourth to HAPPY REALM.

At the Selangor Turf Club today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of FIVE LEVEL DAY in the above race. Evidence was taken from Moor and Lim.

Moor was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. From rounding the turn between the 800m to the 400m, he remained two to three horse-widths off the inside running rail when there was an opportunity for him to race on the fence behind ESPERANZA; and

2. Between the 200m and 100m, he failed to ride his mount with sufficient vigour to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Moor’s points of mitigation and his clean record. Moor was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month with effect from Feb 20 and to Mar 19, both days inclusive. In addition, he was also fined a sum of RM30,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.

Updated Feb 19: Moor subsequently appealed against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and on application was granted a stay of sentence.
