After an extended holidays
in his native Brazil over the Christmas and New Year period, it has not
taken champion jockey Joao Moreira long to get back into the winning act in
Singapore.
In just his second day back
in the saddle at Kranji after notching a record 116 wins last year, Moreira
chalked up his first treble of the 2011 season for three different trainers
today.
His first winner was the
aptly named MAJOR STEP (Brocco - Padmini by Palace Music), an ominous sign
perhaps as he seeks to win another title in Singapore.
Moreira then scored
back-to-back wins in HOPKINS (Sakura Seeking - Grosvenor's Court by
Grosvenor) and WALLINGER (Shamardal - Angel Of The South by Agnes World).
The latter, a two-time winner in Australia, ending a series of seven minor
placings to register his first success in Singapore.
Moreira's treble today was
matched by Vlad Duric who was successful on KING FAALCON (Faltaat - Zoe's
Appeal by Southern Appeal), STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (Riviera - Actshone by
Volksraad) and BLACK ICE (Mugharreb - Lady Migaloo by General Nediym).
The Australian has have a
fine start to the season and currently leads the table with nine winners.
